The Republic of Bashkortostan is located in the southern part of the Ural Mountains, right in between Europe and Asia.
Its area covers 143,000 sq. km.
The republic ranks seventh in Russia by population, being home to 4 million people.
Bashkortostan is one of the leading industrial and agricultural regions of the Russian Federation. It is a major oil-producing region and a center for the chemical and mechanical engineering industries.
The leading sectors include fuel, chemicals and petrochemicals, electric power, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, agriculture, as well as light and food industries.
The republic runs scientific and industrial clusters across energy, chemicals, mechanical engineering, and other fields. These include personnel training centers, research institutes, pilot production facilities, and industrial complexes.
There are 17 special economic zones (SEZ) operating in Bashkortostan, including the "Alga" (Forward) Industrial Production Zone.
In April 2025, the Development Corporation of Bashkortostan and the Hokimiyat (Administration) of Bekabad District in Uzbekistan signed an agreement to create the "Bekabad" joint Uzbek-Bashkir technopark.
